JBWere Masters Golf 2009

The 2009 JBWere Masters Golf Tournament, held at Kingston Heath in Victoria saw a star studded field competing  with Tiger Woods attracting record crowds and eventually clinching the winner’s trophy. The tournament was a sellout with over 107,000 people attending over the four days. This high profile event also gave ASR Events the perfect opportunity to introduce its latest product, the KP 500 Seating System, into Victoria.

A new seating system

The KP 500 system certainly raises the bar when it comes to temporary seating systems”, says ASR Events Business Development Manager Neil Trimble. “We have always been a company which innovates and leads from the front. When we made the decision that it was time to expand on our current product range we set ourselves a brief- to find a world class system which not only provides us with but also which provides our clients with the best looking, most comfortable system in the country.”
“Our research led us to internationally renowned Pakar Seating. With design offices in Malaysia and headed by French Engineer JJ Pralus, Pakar is one of the most respected names in the permanent and temporary seating field. We worked together to develop a system which best suited the Australian market. It has been incredibly well received.”
“Following our initial Masters discussions with IMG’s Director of Tournaments, Simon Corkill, we both quickly realized the need for upward of 5000 seats and knew the KP500 system would be perfect.”
Simon commented, “The KP 500 has a fresh, contemporary look and as the overall image of our events is so critical to their success, ASR Events’ new seating system provided us with the kind of stylish look we were after. We have been involved with ASR Events (formerly AAA Seating) for over 20 years now and with the addition of this new seating we will certainly continue to work with them in the future.”

A challenging build

There were numerous challenges which needed to be considered and overcome during this event;
• The course was still being used during the build process
• Coordination and timing between ASR Events and other companies working on the event
• The unpredictable (some would say predictable) Melbourne weather
• Unique challenges working on a golf course environment

The installation process was a well planned well orchestrated process. Events Operations Manager Jack Halligan said “The environment of a golf course presents unique challenges when building grandstands and ASR Events has a proven track record of successfully addressing these challenges. We had to limit the use of forklifts and other equipment normally employed in the build process so there was a lot more manual handling used. Whilst this made the process a bit slower than normal we understand that responding to client requirements is key to success in this industry – and we are successful.”
IMG’s Tournament Director (Golf), Marcus Gale said “As always, we were impressed with the way the ASR Events staff go about their work.”
“We were all working to some pretty tight timeframes at Kingston Heath and the ASR team performed above expectation to meet the final schedule took great care of the golf course and kept us fully up to date with their progress.”

Success all round

From every aspect the event was a success. Some great golf was played, crowd favourite Tiger Woods delivered a fairytale finish for organisers, massive crowds attended the event, and many of them witnessed it from the comfort of our new seating system.
